As far as “democracy” goes, just because a government is chosen does not mean that it should be supported. Hitler was elected, after all. Does that mean he should have been supported?

I will say that the United States was very hypocritical towards Sinn Fein/IRA for many years. This was done cynically, to appease the Irish American voters. It was shameful.

Actually Red I hit your pirates thing out of the park.
I’m glad you apply your views equally to the IRA et al. Many many people would say they’re different.However Sinn Fein as well as Hamas were elected.People can rant when democracy goes counter to their desires but it doesn’t get anyone anywhere. On a historical note it was Mussolini w/ the trains Hitler built the Autobahn and I don’t praise either.

ChenZhen, the verdict for the Holy Land Foundation trial is coming out on Monday, but I will say that ISNA’s links to jihad have been well documented.

Those Pirates Are more like privateers which is more like a loyal mercenary in service to a sovereign nation. That doesn’t make the actions right per se. It’s just that fair is fair. The Royal Navy of the same era benefited from privateers.As far a ISNA the full picture isn’t necessarily appetizing to a Westerner but not necessarily pure evil from a logic view.HAMAS can be called whatever the West wants to call them.They are however duly elected and although they have a killing wing they are also involved in the social life of Palestinians.Westerners have a hard time wrapping their heads around that.Just to tweak the issue with a whiter shade. Think NORAID and IRA and Sinn Fein. Red Tulips do you see any similarities ?

Well, those pirates were mostly Muslim, sure. But like terrorism, piracy is something that isn’t unique to any specific region, race, religion, etc.

Thus, on the one hand you have a group “denouncing terror.” On the other hand, they are funding terror. I fail to see how the ISNA “denouncing of terror” thus adds up to anything.

I would like to add that pirates were historically mostly Muslim. (since you brought that up)
