Iraq Vs. Vietnam

July 21, 2007

Iraq won 2-0.

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Police danced at checkpoints and gunmen fired their weapons in celebration Saturday as thousands of jubilant Iraqis poured into the streets of Baghdad after their national soccer team’s 2-0 victory over Vietnam in a quarterfinal match of the Asia Cup in Bangkok, Thailand .

The impromptu citywide parade lifted the capital’s wartime gloom and let Iraqis forget momentarily the daily frustrations of their lives.

Update:  The Iraqis partied so hard that 3 people were killed and 50 more injured in the celebration.

Dictionary Entry Test II

July 21, 2007

I’m going to try this without the dd tags and see how it looks…

Godzilla – It was a peaceful and productive forum; lively, congenial and a bounteous source of useful information. godzilla.jpgThen one day, completely without warning, Godzilla arose from the depths and blew his scalding breath on everything in his path. A phalanx of Warriors mobilized to attack the monster, only to be crushed like so many toy tanks under Godzilla’s mighty feet. Godzilla soon reduced the forum to searing and consuming flames. Just as abruptly, he rumbled back beneath the waves, leaving all to tremble in fear of his return. Net life would never be the same. Sadly, many netizens who survive a Godzilla attack will become Xenophobes.

OK…that time I just put the img code in there after the 1st sentence, removed the “hspace” attribute, and switched the alignment to “right”…

<a href="https://chenzhen.files.wordpress.com/2007/06/godzilla.jpg&quot; title="godzilla.jpg"><img align="right" src="https://chenzhen.files.wordpress.com/2007/06/godzilla.thumbnail.jpg&quot; alt="godzilla.jpg" /></a>

Dictionary Entry Test

July 21, 2007

Don’t mind me, I’m just testing my html kung fu to see if I can create a decent-looking dictionary-style entry with an image…

Godzilla

Hmmmm…not too bad…the thumbnail image is clickable to reveal a the full size…

For the record, here is the html:

<dl><dt><a href="http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/warriorshtm/godzilla.htm"><strong>Godzilla</strong></a></dt><dd><a href="https://chenzhen.files.wordpress.com/2007/06/godzilla.jpg&quot; title="godzilla.jpg"><img align="left" src="https://chenzhen.files.wordpress.com/2007/06/godzilla.thumbnail.jpg&quot; hspace="5" alt="godzilla.jpg" /></a>It was a peaceful and productive forum; lively, congenial and a bounteous source of useful information. Then one day, completely without warning, <strong>Godzilla</strong> arose from the depths and blew his scalding breath on everything in his path. A phalanx of Warriors mobilized to attack the monster, only to be crushed like so many toy tanks under Godzilla’s mighty feet. Godzilla soon reduced the forum to searing and consuming flames. Notice I had to use img attributes “hspace” and “align” to get the image to fit in there nicely within the definition tags.

Are We Clear, Kristol?

July 21, 2007

According to Federal Election Commission figures tabulated by a diarist on Daily Kos, the Q2 donations made my active-duty troops to presidential campaigns breaks down like this:

Anti-war:
Ron Paul 26.23%
Barack Obama 24.02%
Hillary Clinton 11.08%
Bill Richardson 5.59%
John Edwards 2.63%
Joe Biden 0.84%
Mike Gravel 0.16%
Dennis Kucinich 0.05%
Chris Dodd 0%

Pro-war:
John McCain 18.31%
Mitt Romney 4.05%
Rudy Giuliani 2.44%
Mike Huckabee 1.84%
Tom Tancredo 1.63%
Duncan Hunter 1.05%
Sam Brownback 0.07%
Tommy Thompson 0%
Jim Gilmore 0%
John Cox 0%

In other words, 70.6% to anti-war candidates vs. 29.4% for pro-war candidates (although I’m not sure if it’s fair to lump candidates like Brownback or Biden into opposite camps, seeing as they seem to be advocating a similar way forward in Iraq, but you get the idea).

Then, today, we get another wonderful bit of wisdom from William Kristol:  They Don’t Really Support the Troops

Having turned against a war that some of them supported, the left is now turning against the troops they claim still to support. They sense that history is progressing away from them–that these soldiers, fighting courageously in a just cause, could still win the war, that they are proud of their service, and that they will be future leaders of this country. They are not “Shock Troops.” They are our best and bravest, fighting for all of us against a brutal enemy in a difficult and frustrating war. They are the 9/11 generation. The left slanders them. We support them. More than that, we admire them.

–William Kristol

Does anyone else smell that?

To Catch A Blog Pimp

July 21, 2007

Please excuse my lame spin on the title of a popular show on NBC, but I thought the title fits this particular situation. I’m issuing a warning to by fellow bloggers to tell them to be on the lookout for eric aka blacktygrrrr:

http://blacktygrrrr.wordpress.com/

M.O.: Leaves a variation of the following message in the comments section of as many politically-themed blogs as possible:

I am contacting fellow political bloggers. I hope this email is not an intrusion. Anyway, I would like it very much if you would go to http://www.bloggerschoiceawards.com/blogs/show/21020 and vote for me for best political blog and best overall blog as well, if you feel my blog is of a high quality. I really think I have a legitimate shot at winning. If you are open to spreading the word, that would be cool as well.

Thank you.

eric aka www.blacktygrrrr.wordpress.com

P.S. If you are open to a link exchange, I get some decent traffic

Seems polite enough, but consider the fact that the pimping is widespread and has been going on for some time now, well before any ballots were involved. Back then, blacktygrrrr was just trying to get into your blogroll:

I would consider it a privilege if you would add my blog “The Tygrrrr Express” www.blacktygrrrr.wordpress.com if you feel the quality is high.

Happy June.

eric

Notice that I have not linked to the blacktygrrrr site. You can copy/paste the url if you really want to check it out, but I didn’t really want to give the pimp the satisfaction of a link from my blog. I will, however, link to many examples of the pimping in question. A note to these bloggers: You got pimped!

Those were just the ones I could find – FROM THE LAST 7 DAYS!   Over the last few months I’ve stumbled upon blacktygrrrr’s cyber-graffiti countless times in the comments sections of blogs, and I don’t think I’ve come across an instance where he hasn’t pimped his blog.  Even more irritating is the fact that the guy appears to be a Bushbot model 101.  So, those of you out there who have added blacktygrrrr to your blogroll, or have been seduced by the pimp and actually voted for his blog in the Blogger’s Choice Awards, I’m sorry.  But consider this post as an AMBER ALERT to catch a runaway blog pimp.  I will kindly ask readers to report any future sightings, and I will add them to this post.
