Al-Maliki Asks Bush To Replace Petraeus (Update: Lies I Tell You! Lies!)
July 28, 2007The man that seems to have the weight of the world on his shoulders right now isn’t getting along to well with Iraq’s prime minister: Iraqi leader tells Bush: Get Gen Petraeus out
It doesn’t look like a personality thing, rather a dispute over tactics:
Although the call was rejected, aides to both men admit that Mr Maliki and Gen David Petraeus engage in frequent stand-up shouting matches, differing particularly over the US general’s moves to arm Sunni tribesmen to fight al-Qa’eda.
One Iraqi source said Mr Maliki used a video conference with Mr Bush to call for the general’s signature strategy to be scrapped. “He told Bush that if Petraeus continues, he would arm Shia militias,” said the official. “Bush told Maliki to calm down.”
So, while Bush is telling America to “wait for Petraeus“, it appears that al-Maliki isn’t so patient. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but I’m guessing that al-Maliki’s opinion probably carries more weight than those here at home when it comes to what might happen in Iraq over the next few months.
Update: Al-Maliki has apparently corrected the story, acknowledging disagreements but saying the request for Petraeus’ departure was false.
I think Maliki wants our troops out and getting Petraeus out is a start!
It does not sound as if the shiites and sunnis are getting along very well. Petraeus only has another month or so of surge to straighten out things.
Do you think that it might be premature to start talking about studying how partition of Iraq could be effected?
How is that going to play out in September. Will Petraeus suddenly be able to say that the surge is working or will he be forced to do what those mean “Bush Haters” have accused GW Bush of doing and lie?
Well Suzie-Q, if Maliki wants our troops out why doesn’t he just say so?
I want Lefty out of my government before they destroy the whole thing, why won’t anyone listen?
I want my country back!
It sounds as if the Neocons have already done a job on our government and made the “lefties ” look good by comparison.
The Jews, or Neocons as you like to call them, are no longer in charge of our government.
The dismal approval rating Lefties are in charge of congress and have changed it from a legislative branch of government into an investigative branch.
Cheney’s certainly still there, Sage.
/and I don’t think he’s a Jew.
gasdocpol said “It sounds as if the Neocons have already done a job on our government and made the “lefties ” look good by comparison.”
Does that mean that Cheney is now a good guy because he isn’t a Neocon?
/I somehow don’t think that’s what gasdocpol meant.
And why did you go and piss Charles off Chen?
You were doing so well. I really thought you were coming around. I was rooting for ya!
Cheney is a neocon. Do we have to have the N-word discussion again?
And I don’t mean to piss Charles off. I just hadn’t heard where ‘lefties’ has actually succeeded in getting Gitmo prisoners released (which was the implication). But that’s the next thread up.
Maliki does want us out. Funny he wants it so bad since he’s got to be high on the kill list of people post coalition departure. The Iraqi people have got to be hurting for their country and Right Left or Center should be able to relate.
Partition has been studied and isn’t going to happen unless Iraq chooses it.Where that goes is relatively clear.Turkish unrest increases in the north wider migration for survival throughout and ? of Saudi/Iran tensions secondary to the even more destabilized neighbor.
Bottom line Petreaus out ? We all leave.
Partition has not been studied adaquately.
There is an interesting article in the NY times today about partition and my blog comments about it.
The NY Times is the LAST place I would go for information.
You probably go for your information to FOX NEWS which is fair and balanced. And your favorate place is probably the “No spin zone” of Bill O’Reilley
gasdocpol- I went to your blog but you didn’t post a link to that NYT article.
Anyway, everything that I’ve been reading tells me that really only the Kurds would be warm to a partition.
Chen Zhen
just google Iraq math from one make three.
I see that there is quite a bit of positive reaction to the article.
No gasdocpol, I actually watch Olbermann because I like to see Lefty become unglued and have conniptions.
Hehehe…
Having Alfred E. Newman as Commander-inChief of our armed forces is enough to make almost anyone become unglued and have have conniptions.
Olbermann never loses control of himself. I like him best when he rips Dubya a new one from time to time.
Olbermann couldn’t locate his ass to find his brain, which is where his brain is residing (if you culd call it a brain).
Nobody watches that pimple brain idiot anyhow…his numbers are as pathetic as the Democrat congress, and you can’t get much lower then that.
AaH yer fodder’s mustache!
I have enjoyed this sophomoric battle of wits as much as I can stand. Thanks for a trip back to the eighth grade.
You actually made it to the eighth grade?
Much farther than that Sage. here
gasdocpol and I just have a difference of opinion Chen.
I read his post in the link you provided, I believe he is wrong on many points. I don’t appreciate being called “irrational” because I don’t agree with someone else’s way of thinking.

I said that calling someone a “Bush Hater” implies that person has an irrational and inapropriate hatred of GW Bush.
I went on to say that I do not personally hate the man but rather the things that are being done in his name and that I can give objective reasons for my opinion.
I allowed that supporters of GW Bush have an irrational and inappropriate love for GW Bush. I would add that they are entitled to their opinion as are we all. Hopefully in the aggregate, we can get it right. The tide is turning. Fewer and fewer are agreeing with Bush now.
Desert sage
I was a bit nasty myself and I apologize.
uh-huh…
This story is a fraud.
