ChenZhen Psyc-o-analyzed

October 12, 2007

Full disclosure:  I managed to break into the previously impenetrable GCP lair by registering a sockpuppet from my work computer.  Right away, I happened to notice that they have a hidden forum that is only visible to registered members, and low and behold, there was a thread where they were commenting on my posts on other blogs.  It’s kind of a weird thing, I think, because as far as they were concerned, I couldn’t see or respond to it.  It’s the cyberspace equivalent of yelling at the TV.  But, since I did see it, I think that it wouldn’t be right to just sit there and lurk, would it?

So, a few days later, I was sitting around at home and decided to give one of these free transparent proxies a try (the shy buggers had blocked my home IP addy).  Bingo!  I got in, entered my sockpuppet username and password, proceeded to change my username so they knew who the heck had breached their defenses (sockpuppetry isn’t exactly my style, anyway), and responded to the posts in question.  After a few minutes, I got a response from GCPer psycgal:

Chen

Found your way back I see. No skin off my nose, but I would really like to
know WHY you felt you had to come back.

Let’s work with an analogy from real life. You go to a party and piss
people off, they ask you to leave and escort you out. You are, obviously,
not welcome. But you decide to sneak back in, using a pretty poor disguise
and some crafty skills. This despite the fact that you know you are not
welcome. You obsess about the group you have been excluded from, figuring
out ways to get back in.

Allow me to say I see parallels in the scenario I have presented and
yourself. Why on earth would you want to come to a place (GCP) where you
know, in no uncertain terms, that you are not welcome. Does this boost your
ego in some way? What is the rationale in your behaviour? Because I find it
quite disturbing – haven’t you got more to do in real life than obsess
about getting back into an internet site that doesn’t want you here.

Please enlighten me as to your reasons for sneaking back in. I really am
intrigued, and disturbed as previously mentioned, by your behaviour.

/in other words, your behaviour just ain’t normal mate

I didn’t notice until after I had typed my response to this that I had already been banned (I manged to last about 15 min).  Alas, my response didn’t make it through.  So, I’ll post something here.  What the heck, right?  I’m sure they’ll see it.

First off, I’d have to say that psycgal’s handle is quite fitting:

Therapist can be a highly annoying and therefore very effective Warrior. Instead of making a frontal attack, therapist.jpg Therapist attempts to shift the focus of the conflict to the combatants’ psychological motivations and problems. He will freely speculate about other Warriors’ insecurities, personalities and relationships, but he will almost never directly engage the subject of the dispute. CAUTION: Evil Clown, Imposter and Troller often masquerade as Therapist.

Second, I didn’t find my way back.  I was never allowed in to begin with; blocked out of sheer cowardice.

Third…um…define “normal”.  We’re talking about a site where rayra is the featured member, after all, but…

Finally, If you really want to know why I did what I did, well, let’s just say that I enjoyed the challenge, and the thought that I could contribute to some irrational paranoia with regards to accepting future registrants was just too intriguing for me to pass up.

  1. Nice blog. I’ve added a link to you over at Swerve Left (http://swerveleft.blogspot.com).

  2. Yea, I noticed that. Thanks for the nod!

  3. It speaks volumes about lizardoids and “Heathers” alike that they regard respectful disagreement as offensive. They just don’t realize how much they resemble the “moose limbs” that they love to hate.
