Oh Noes! Not A Green Empire State Building!

October 13, 2007

Tonight I’ve decided to comment on what I consider to be the silliest story on memeorandum at the moment:  Sharia By The Inch

Islamofascism: In a monumental nod to political correctness, the Empire State Building is to be lit up green in honor of the Muslim holiday Eid. The separation of Islam from terror is officially complete.

Six years ago, Islamic terrorists screamed “Allah is Greatest!” as they slammed fuel-laden jumbo jets into two other New York skyscrapers. Six years ago, New Yorkers were worried about the Green Menace.

Now, for the first time, New York’s remaining famous skyscraper will be aglow in green — the color of Islam — to mark the end of Ramadan, a month of intense Islamic renewal. Officials say it’ll be an annual event, in the same tradition of the yearly skyscraper lighting for Christmas and Hanukkah.

You heard it here folks.  The Empire State Building is ….GREEN!

Victory for the Green Menace!  We’ve subjected ourselves to yearly dhimmitude!  How dare we recognize a holiday in a religion that happens to be the same religion as terrorists that knocked down the WTC!  Remember, they were Muslim!  Green! 9/11! Muslim! Green!  9/11! Aaarrrggghhh!!!

Sorry about the lame wingnut impersonation.  Sadly, however, I’m not too far off:

…and so on, and so forth

The problem, the way I see it, is that we weren’t attacked by Islam on 9/11.  We were attacked by al Qaeda, whose flag happens to look like the Arabic version of pirate colors:

qaeda-flag.jpg vs pirate-flag.jpg

Heck, they even took over the planes like a bunch of pirates:

Anyway, there’s just something irrational about all this.  The Empire State Building gets lit up for all kinds of holidays.  You can’t hold all the Muslims in America accountable for the 9/11 attacks.   And, yes, some of your fellow Americans happen to be Muslim, and the vast, vast majority of them haven’t blown anything up.

Get a freakin grip people.

  1. Good Post. The occasions that the ESB gets lit are pretty scattered.Perhaps they can throw a bone and say the green is early for St Pats and for AlGore “peace” prize. On any given day does the average person know what the lights mean anyway ? The Yahoo article is whacked out. The person who gave the prayer at the dinner was a USN officer. There is a need for Muslims in the officer corps since we’ll unfortunately need them in the future.

  2. Dear bonehead, the writing on the AQ flag is called the Shahad also known as “the creed of Islam.”

It reads: “There is no god but God, and Muhammad is his messenger.”

  3. Me thinks your logic has been hijacked by the ‘religion of peace’- to claim that 9/11 was caused by AQ instead of Islam is the same as saying ‘the Wehrmacht attacked Poland, the Nazi’s had nothing to do with it’- or ‘we went to war against the Nazi’s, not against Germany’-As soon as you bring us a few million anti-Islamic muslims who take the jihadists to account you have a case. But I’d be happy if you find us ONE so-called ‘moderate muslim’ who credibly rejects Muhammedan supremacy and the 164 jihad verses, openly. How many centuries do you want to wait ‘for the vast majority of them who haven’t blown anything up’ to come forward and denounce terrorism?

  4. Sheik- The ISNA denounces terrorism pretty consistently, from what I’ve seen. Me thinks your logic and so many others’ has been distorted by the anger and fear that flowed in 9/11’s wake.

Biff- I wasn’t making the argument that AQ isn’t Muslim. Of course they are. But you can’t hold every Muslim on the planet (or especially in the US) responsible for what AQ does. Heck, the majority of the Iraqis even hate AQ.

Islam is not the enemy. I bash Bush pretty regularly, but at least he was smart enough to recognise that:

“My country desires peace,” Bush told world leaders in the cavernous main hall at the U.N. “Extremists in your midst spread propaganda claiming that the West is engaged in a war against Islam. This propaganda is false and its purpose is to confuse you and justify acts of terror. We respect Islam.”

So what’s so scary about some green lightbulbs?

  5. Islamophobia is very real in this day and age.

  6. Oh you don’t want to say that JMK. They think that “Islamophobia” is nothing more than a made-up phrase used by CAIR as a weapon in sociological warfare.

  7. Bonehead? Did Biff really call you that? What the hell, these guys are afraid of green light-bulbs?
“There is no god but God”…I don’t even know what that’s supposed to mean, but it doesn’t cause me to quake in my boots! Of course, I don’t wear boots, but that’s not the point…

  8. […] PS: Good comment on the topic. […]

  9. Greetings, “sheik yer’mami”. Next time you’re over at LGF, could you please inform Chucky that, no, Daily Kos readers do not [heart] Ron Paul? kthxbye

  10. ChenZhen:

ISNA is linked with Hamas. They are an “unindicted co-conspirator” in the Holy Land Foundation trial.

Thus, on the one hand you have a group “denouncing terror.” On the other hand, they are funding terror. I fail to see how the ISNA “denouncing of terror” thus adds up to anything.

I would like to add that pirates were historically mostly Muslim. (since you brought that up)

    See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbary_pirates

  11. Well, those pirates were mostly Muslim, sure. But like terrorism, piracy is something that isn’t unique to any specific region, race, religion, etc.

  12. ChenZhen,

I did not say that all pirates are Muslim. But it is interesting that some of the most fearsome pirates, who nearly started a world war, were in fact Muslim. (Barbary Pirates)

I see you have nothing to say in response to my comment about ISNA, which is linked with Hamas.

  13. Those Pirates Are more like privateers which is more like a loyal mercenary in service to a sovereign nation. That doesn’t make the actions right per se. It’s just that fair is fair. The Royal Navy of the same era benefited from privateers. As far a ISNA the full picture isn’t necessarily appetizing to a Westerner but not necessarily pure evil from a logic view.HAMAS can be called whatever the West wants to call them. They are however duly elected and although they have a killing wing they are also involved in the social life of Palestinians.Westerners have a hard time wrapping their heads around that.Just to tweak the issue with a whiter shade. Think NORAID and IRA and Sinn Fein. Red Tulips do you see any similarities ?

  14. I see you have nothing to say in response to my comment about ISNA, which is linked with Hamas.

You mentioned the trial, and it was my understanding that the verdict hadn’t been made public yet.

  15. “in2thefray” wrote a nonsensical rambling, somehow intimating that the IRA/Sinn Fein is equivalent to Hamas. Given I despise the IRA/Sinn Fein, that is hardly a winning argument to me. I do not care that they provide “social services.” Hitler made the trains run on time; for that are we supposed to praise him?

ChenZhen, the verdict for the Holy Land Foundation trial is coming out on Monday, but I will say that ISNA’s links to jihad have been well documented.

  16. “in2thefray” wrote a nonsensical rambling

Actually Red I hit your pirates thing out of the park.
I’m glad you apply your views equally to the IRA et al. Many many people would say they’re different. However Sinn Fein as well as Hamas were elected.People can rant when democracy goes counter to their desires but it doesn’t get anyone anywhere. On a historical note it was Mussolini w/ the trains Hitler built the Autobahn and I don’t praise either.

  17. “in2thefray”: I did not even understand what you were saying regarding the pirates, which is why I did not respond to it.

As far as “democracy” goes, just because a government is chosen does not mean that it should be supported. Hitler was elected, after all. Does that mean he should have been supported?

I will say that the United States was very hypocritical towards Sinn Fein/IRA for many years. This was done cynically, to appease the Irish American voters. It was shameful.

  18. […] 4th, 2007 I’m not sure what’s so scary about the color green.   A little while ago I documented the outrage that permeated the rightosphere over those dreaded green lights that illuminated the Empire State […]

  19. umm…I hate to be the stick in the mud, but the empire state building glowed green yesterday for Wicked Day. If you’re talking about that, it had nothing to do with Islam.

  20. It is a pity, that now I can not express – it is compelled to leave. But I will be released – I will necessarily write that I think.

By the way, what do you think about this icons site?
