Today’s Head-Scratcher

January 1, 2008

Michael Totten (emphasis mine):

Happy New Year

The surge sure worked, didn’t it?

Something tells me 2008 will be even better than 2007.

Better?

2007 Toll A Record For U.S. In Iraq

I’m going to go ahead and speculate that it wasn’t “better” for the 900 troops that were killed in 2007.  But, hey, what do I know?

Sure, the trend is a positive thing, but the object of the “surge” wasn’t to reduce U.S. casualties, as I understood it, so it (in and of itself) is hardly a measure of whether it’s “working”.

  1. Chen sorry to go ot but have been to Ron pauls blog?

  2. Nope. That would be an impostor (again).

  3. Most other Iraq conflict metrics are improving as well.

  4. Let’s not forget that the “surge” will be ending in a few months because the troops, by law, must be brought home.

    Still no progress politically either.

Also, Pakistan, Afghanistan are in complete turmoil.

Afghanistan is falling back into the hands of Al-qaida, and the Taliban.

Pakistan is being run by a Dictator who, unlike Saddam, has nuclear weapons.

The “Surge” is similar to spraying only one apartment for roaches in a building of ten units.

You may clear out your apartment, but the roaches simply move to your neighbor’s house.

    Eventually they will return.

  5. I say send 30,000 more over and get that place secure so we can get some of that oil payback, so as not to appear to be a hypocrite I’ll go again!,,, my 454 GMC dualy is killin me!
