Righty Blog Of The Week: Sister Toldjah

February 9, 2008

Just getting something off my chest here, and it’s been a little while since I featured a “blog of the week” (perhaps I shouldn’t use that phrasing, but oh well), so here goes…

You know, I’ve posted thousands of comments on probably hundreds of blogs, but I can’t remember the last time I’ve had a comment of mine deleted.  That’s right.  Like…ZAP!.  Gone.  I managed to post 1600 comments on LGF (many of them high in snark value) without that happening*, and I swear that was one of Charles’ favorite things to do.

Anyway, it happened yesterday (twice, in fact) on a blog called Sister Toldjah

Should be called Sister Delete-jah.

Lighten up Sister!

(just for the record, I had coComment turned off for the first post, but it caught the second one)

Update: Honorable mention: The Astute Blogger

Update 4/10/08:  Sister Toldjah responds.  If the comments were being deleted by mistake, I apologise for the jab.

  1. The get more hits than me why ?

  2. Chen,

maybe she is just very unaccommodating of different views or maybe it was because first time commentators always have to be approved (see her comments policy) but having been the subject to barrage of threats, links to porn sites, insults and trolling by a sex offender, for about two years, who uses multiple identities and ip addresses, I find askimet useful.

I had one of his websites removed for libel and sexual harassment but he just set up websites, like this one http://charlie180.wordpress.com/ If she has the same sort of crap, 30 spam comments a day, all saying the same thing, I can see why she might be trigger happy. I try to had to keep a balance but my right not to be sexual harassed or slandered comes first, and occasionally that might mean deleting a legitimate comment by mistake.

  3. Sorry to hear about your cyberstalker steph, but I think what I ran into here is someone who is overly sensitive to criticism of Bush, especially when that criticism comes in the form of my snarky mockingbird style of kung fu.

While we’re on the topic…There’s probably no way to prove it, but I’m not sure if there are other sites where I’m actually blacklisted. I haven’t been able to successfully post on Flopping Aces, for example. Also, I tried registering for Michelle Malkin’s site upon its re-grand opening and I never had a password sent to my email. It could very well be that, because I’ve posted so much in so many places under the same handle, I’ve got a bit of a reputation. And ask any of the LGFers, there’s nothing obscene or offensive about anything I post. It’s just wit, really. I’m ChenZhen, the deadliest postalier on the Wild Web (™)

So, when situations like these arise, I’ll usually take the opportunity to post something here and send them a ping. It’s all good.

  4. I honestly don’t think that there is an excuse for deleting legitimate views, even if they contradict the original article or the views of the blog author, that is why I got so annoyed at Steph.

I should point out that I am the blog author of http://charlie180.wordpress.com/

Firstly, Steph, I am sorry that you were harassed by someone (Gareth I assume?), there really is no excuse for sexual harassment, or any kind of hurtful or personal comments. However I should make clear (again!) that I am not who you think I am, I am not some persistent stalker but I am sorry that I have given you that impression.

I started my blog in April 2007, a full 8 months before I stumbled across your blog and commented on Police State Britain. Now, logically, is it likely that I could have kept that blog going, on a variety of issues, just to harass you at some point in the future?

Before that I had a similar blog on Blogger for about two years.

So please don’t link me to some sexual deviant that has harassed you in the past, it’s not nice and could be misconstrued as libel. Poor ChenZhen has enough to worry about without adding vicarious liability.

So, when situations like these arise, I’ll usually take the opportunity to post something here and send them a ping. It’s all good.

Which is what I started doing when Steph banned me.

  5. Charlie-

Do anonymous netizens really have to worry about libel? Anyway, I can see attacking arguments, statements and positions of another blogger as legit (I’ve used the Chamber for quite a bit of that), but I think you might be crossing the line by digging into something more personal there.

  6. @ Chen

You’re probably right, LGF might pass on banned IP addresses, they banned a former contributor and moderator, who fell out with the owner, so they are very trigger happy.

I just thought that I’d give the other side of it because I know what it is like to be harassed and I know of several female bloggers who have been. “Charlie” is a very good example of what I’m talking about.

    @ Charlie

I can prove that your the same person as Sancho and Ewan, and the countless other aliases – you used the same IP addresses, and in fact, you have stalked me using all three names. I have copies in my email.

Why do you keep trying to post on my blog using different IP addresses if you know you are are banned? Sometimes up to 30 comments in a day? And why would you send hardcore porn links?

And “Charlie”, hint – sane people don’t devote entire blogs to harassing and lying about another blogger – that is obsessive, and every sane person realises that.

You can’t sue because the accusation is true, and you’d have to crawl out from under your rock and give your real name and address!

  7. ChenZhen,

I know of at least a couple of cases where ‘anonymous’ posters in forums have ended up in court for libel. Unfortunately no-one is as anonymous as they like to think, or we’ve been led to believe.

But I was just kidding about libel.

As for crossing the line, maybe. I have certainly come pretty close. But it is difficult to keep your cool with someone who is repeatedly accusing you of being a sex offender, cyberstalker and all round degenerate.

I don’t believe that Steph is who she says she is, but then again does it really matter? You’re right though, these things can quickly spiral out of control into a pointless vendetta and end up in an exchange of childish insults.

  8. Steph,

This is quite worrying. I have neveremailed you, any emails that you have claiming to be from me, or that you think are from me, are not. You’ve never posted on my blog, how would I have your email address?

I can’t explain the IP addresses (if it is true), mine is dynamic, it changes every day. Every 3 days at most. You may be getting a proxy server or something, my ISP is famous for that. I have certainly never stalked you, what kind of person do you think I am?

As for posting on your blog, admittedly I have attempted to post since being banned, usually logged in though (so you’d always know it was me, but surely Charles, Chaz, Mr Wilson, and Charles Wilson don’t count as aliases?) but never spam or porn links? As for 30 comments a day, be realistic! How could I keep up multiple aliases, multiple IP addresses, multiple websites, have a job, a life and still be responsible for all that you accuse me of? I am sorry for the problems that you are having but you cannot lay them allat my door.

I admit, I did take being banned perhaps a little too personally, as I am sure ChenZhen will attest, it is a little insulting and frustrating, especially when you edit comments, accuse me of being an idiot and remove any possibility of me defending myself. But harassing and lying? At worst I was emphasising your points and making assumptions as to your reasoning and motives.

I didn’t devote the whole blog to you, I started it in April 07, months before I was even aware of your existence, you just became a frequent topic from mid December.

You can’t sue because the accusation is true, and you’d have to crawl out from under your rock and give your real name and address!

You’re right I can’t sue, but only because you haven’t mentioned me by name or even as a real person. If it would help dispel this belief of yours that I am some nut case stalking you then I am happy to supply you with my name (Charles Wilson) and address if need be.

To be honest, whether you are Steph the lawyer or Abdul the second year law student from the Midlands, I have perhaps gone a little OTT. I won’t make any further posts about you. Clearly someone has been or is harassing you and I am only making matters worse.

But Steph, if you don’t believe anything else I have said, believe this – I have only been visiting your blog for three months.

  9. You know, I don’t really mind using the Chamber to serve as neutral ground to engage in this dispute, or act as a sort of impartial moderator, but I’m thinking it would be better if I had a dedicated thread for it.

    You guys game?

  10. […] an attempt to exhaust a dispute that arose unexpectedly between Charlie180 and Steph in a previous thread . It should be noted that both of these netizens are wordpress.com bloggers, allowing each of them […]

  11. ChenZhen, according to my count, you’ve posted roughly 20 comments at my site in the last month, many of them critical of Bush and/or the Iraq war. If you attempted to post anything prior to that, it was likely deleted accidently during a spam wave or you came off as extremely trollish your first time around – and by trollish I don’t mean merely criticizing Bush.

As you can see by the last month, I have no problems with people on the left (or the right, for that matter) being critical of Bush on my blog. Most of my problems with lefties who attempt to post at my site have boiled down to them starting off by insulting me or my readers personally – adding nothing to the conversation, or sounding like they are coming straight from the Democratic Underground. I’m not a dictator when it comes to my comments section, but I do try to keep away those whose goal it is to disrupt a debate to the point it is meaningless.

Obviously, the fact that you are posting there now shows that the problem is probably the former: That your (I assume) first couple of comments were likely deleted by mistake. I don’t think I’ve agreed with anything you’ve written at my site, but disagreement with me doesn’t constitute not being allowed to post in the comments.

A friendly suggestion for you: Next time you run across this, you might want to actually email the blogger in question and ask rather than assume the worst.

I’m guessing that you never noted in any update posts that your comments at “Sister Delete-jah” weren’t being deleted. In case I’m right, hopefully this comment will set the record straight.

  12. A friendly suggestion for you: Next time you run across this, you might want to actually email the blogger in question and ask rather than assume the worst.

Well, like I said, I’ve posted thousands of comments on hundreds of blogs, and I hadn’t come across that.

Thanks for stopping by though. I updated the post.
