Hey BLACKFIVE

February 12, 2008

Oops.

FOX 26 in Houston has the video up of the report and that Texas Flag with Che’s picture features prominently in the center of the frame for about a good 2 seconds.

cheflag.jpg

Just for the benefit of the Chamber’s international visitors out there, who might not know what the flag for the state of Texas looks like, here ya go:

texas-flag.jpg

Update: It looks like this story spawned today’s rightospheric wad blow. Seriously though, if the major dirt on Obama amounts to things like some woman putting up a Che flag in an office, I don’t think we’ve got much to worry about.

Update:  Obama’s site addresses the “controversy”, with all that really needs to be said:

On Reports of an Inappropriate Flag in a Texas Obama Office

February 12, 2008

From Houston Fox News:

“The office featured in this video is funded by volunteers of the Barack Obama Campaign and is not an official headquarters for his campaign.”

  1. Since you’re an Obama supporter I ask you: Is it appropriate for a potential President of the United States of America to directly or indirectly support anti American rhetoric ? The person who wants to occupy the Oval office needs to have the maturity, intelligence and honesty to see the big picture.Lapel pin issue ? Yeah I get his thinking but what is he thinking ? Now this. Sooner or later Barak Obama better figure out what country he’s looking to head.

  2. Again, who cares?

Really, how is this a reflection of the man himself?

Does anyone think he hung it up himself? Some volunteers (people Obama doesn’t even know) hang up something like this and all of a sudden it’s his fault?

Let’s use a little common sense here.

  3. Politics is as much about image as it is ideas. How many times was Ron Paul rightfully pilloried for speaking to Troofers and white supremacists ? Picture of an NRA member with a toddler holding a gun ever used to damn Republicans ? Yeah ! Let’s put a neat twist on it too. Say this “voluntary unofficial office” was key in getting the Barack vote out.Candidates have to take the good and bad that comes from their supporters. You want common sense send an email to the moron that put up the flag and has put an unnecessary ding on BO.

  4. Shoot, what’s the big deal about this? In the theater of my mind most you Obama supporters either got a Che flag or a Madonna poster hanging on your bedroom wall.

If the man was standing in front of it, I could see your point. If it was his office, I could see your point. If it was someone other than a couple of women who have no pull over anything, that actually knew Obama, then you may have a point.

Otherwise, this is a non-issue. I really, who f’in cares? Just because I may have something on my wall, does not mean it represents the people I support.

And yes, while some people have been chastised in the past for the same reasons, it doesn’t make it right for either side. If the NRA wants to use kids to get their message across, then I can’t blame Bush for that. Does it show them in a negative light, yes. Do they represent republicans? Some of them are, but don’t necessarily represent them. Does it represent one individual in that party? Nope.

This is a silly issue to attack Obama over. He had nothing to do with it. No one should even have to defend him over this, it’s such a non-issue.

talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill.

  6. Madonna sucks.

I have pictures of mullets and guns on my walls.

    Nothing more ‘Merican than that.

  7. Shoot, what’s the big deal about this? In the theater of my mind most you Obama supporters either got a Che flag or a Madonna poster hanging on your bedroom wall.

Let’s see if I can help sharpen the resolution a bit in your theater, and say that what I have hanging on my walls are a few Dali prints. Oh, and my college diploma.

  8. I’m not attacking Obama even if I’m to the Right in the blogosphere. I’m simply pointing out an issue. It is synergistic to past issues. Who cares ? Everyone but Obama supporters would be my guess. Volunteers with no pull ? Except ones doing the calls, fishy emails and getting out the vote.Volunteers matter. Bottom line image is crucial and things like this are powerful weapons in the hands of certain people.

  9. I have pictures of mullets and guns on my walls.

LOL. As long as you’re not wearing one (the mullet).

Besides, you told me you weren’t voting for him.

  10. General Chen,

hanging on my walls are a few Dali prints. Oh, and my college diploma.

You, a Salvador fan? Weirdest pictures…

    Purchased or earned?

  11. I’m not attacking Obama even if I’m to the Right in the blogosphere. I’m simply pointing out an issue. It is synergistic to past issues. Who cares ? Well, I’d agree with all that. The thing is that Obama (or any other candidate for that matter) persumably doesn’t have a lot of control over who will chose to volunteer for him, and I’m pointing out that if that’s the type of issue that these “certain people” are going to focus on, then they’re desperate.

  12. Purchased or earned?

My diploma? I’m not sure what you mean by that. I had to pay to go to college, so…both?

  13. Actually Chen,

I think it’s somewhat telling (the Che picture). This is a small but significant representation of your clan. You can’t tell me this is unique. You don’t think Berkeley, Boulder, and Brattleboro aren’t going to be pulling the Obama lever almost in unison? Anybody living at the public trough will be, my friend. When you can’t cut it without some type of government assistance or you believe government the only answer to our problems, this is what you do; vote as liberal as it gets.

My 70yr old filthy, hippie neighbor thinks Obama’s your next messiah. Of course, 16 years ago she thought Bill Clinton the next messiah. Now she can’t stand the SOB. I’d love all you ‘progressives’ to explain to me your ‘sudden’ mental lapse which you seem to be having with William Jefferson and Hillary Rodham. A year ago you thought Bill the best President we ever had and our first black President; Hillary, the smartest woman who ever lived. Now Bill’s a racist and Hillary unqualified and a warmonger. What gives?

My old, filthy neighbor, who keeps company with her coy pond, can’t list an Obama accomplish; can’t list a significant reason for electing him, other than she’s for some nebulous “change.” But she loves him! And the best part – all but her oldest child (he lives off the land; code word for you and I support him) are now conservative because of her bankrupt philosophy.

  14. Let me tell you about the ‘worth’ of those college diplomas while I sit here on my ass in the middle of the afternoon with Star Trek reruns on, typing on your site. Obviously, I’m in limbo for a few months.

I’ve got three diplomas and two others “with honors”, including one being Phi Beta Kappa. My mother spent a small fortune having them imprinted on some very nice wood. They’re real pretty.

I never had the heart to tell her they have gathered dust in my closet for 20 years now. One of these days, I’ll drag them out and admire them, I guess.

If I had a son today and he wasn’t crazy about school, I wouldn’t hesitate to try and direct him to a trade school instead of college. I predict we are going to have a horrible shortage of qualified labor soon, if we already don’t. And I know college graduates now minding as waiters while all those ‘dumb’ vo-tech kids make a small fortune.

Damn plumber wanted $120.00 the other day to give me an estimate. My doctor buddy and I stared at each other and said, “I think we blew it.”

    True story…

  15. Speaking of the “certain people”, Hannity just mentioned this story at the top of the hour on his show, and of course forgot to mention the little detail that these were not Obama staffers that put the flag up.

    Anyway…

    Tex-

I’d love all you ‘progressives’ to explain to me your ’sudden’ mental lapse which you seem to be having with William Jefferson and Hillary Rodham. A year ago you thought Bill the best President we ever had and our first black President; Hillary, the smartest woman who ever lived. Now Bill’s a racist and Hillary unqualified and a warmonger. What gives?

You know, I wish you’d stop attributing positions to me that I have not taken.

  16. I see now.

All this time I’ve been asking myself, “What is Obama going to change?” I guess we have an answer…

    From Wikipedia

As a young man studying medicine, Guevara travelled throughout South America…. His experiences and observations during these trips led him to the conclusion that the region’s socio-economic inequalities were a result of capitalism, colonialism, neo-colonialism, and imperialism and thus could only be remedied by socialism through revolution; prompting him to intensify his study of Marxism….

    Change, indeed.

  17. Chenzhen,

Oh, over on LGF, you swooned over the Bill Clinton regime…

    Come on, be honest.

  18. The Red Pill,

LOL. Shoot, I’m having a difficult time distinguishing ‘progressivism’ from socialism anymore. There are two things libs love to tinker with more than anything; other than the tax code: (1) Rewriting history; (2) monkeying with semantics.

  19. Tex- you claim to know an awful lot about my stint at LGF. Is there something you want to tell me?

BTW- I am being honest. I don’t remember “swooning”, or stating any of those other things.

  20. General Chen,

Is this you? LOL. Man, you sure called this one right! Viva la Hugo!

    http://fearbush.com/blog/?p=33

Just taking a stroll down memory lane to see just how many of the dire predictions have come to pass.

  21. No that wasn’t me.

  22. Chen,

Good! I was beginning to worry about you! I knew you had more sense that to compliment Hugo.

  23. Tex- Nice dodge.

  24. General,

I’m always amused at your faux courage.

Now, you’re going to tell me that not once did you compliment the Clinton Adm. during your realm at LGF? Be careful because I’m betting you’re going to lose.

Unfortunately, I understand you have to be a member there to search now – I’ll need some assistance to reference because me no lizard.

    But…

I’d love all you ‘progressives’ to explain to me your ’sudden’ mental lapse which you seem to be having with William Jefferson and Hillary Rodham.

While the email was addressed to you in paragraph 1, the question you reference is framed as a generality from ‘progressives’ – not a direct challenge against you. So what did I dodge?

By the way, what is your relationship with Fearbush.com? I honestly don’t know. I thought that was your site.

  25. Tex-

Unfortunately, I understand you have to be a member there to search now – I’ll need some assistance to reference because me no lizard.

I may have defended Clinton on occassion from lizard attacks or misinformation, but that’s hardly “swooning”. I can’t say that I liked Clinton as much as I just didn’t have a problem with him, and I would consider him a much better president than Bush (which, of course, sets the bar pretty low).

You’re no lizard? You fooled me. You claim to be familiar with my exploits over there, call me General, and hang out on LGF Watch…I am to assume that you were/are just a lurker? I’d respectfully warn you if you’re being disingenuous, as a LGF comment search for my nickname would most likely be deemed as a ban-worthy offence. I’m afraid my past LGF comments on Clinton are probably lost in the proverbial haystack.

While the email was addressed to you in paragraph 1, the question you reference is framed as a generality from ‘progressives’ – not a direct challenge against you. So what did I dodge?

By the way, what is your relationship with Fearbush.com? I honestly don’t know. I thought that was your site.

The dodge was to my question about your LGF status, which you have appeared to have at least addressed now, so just forget it.

FB is not my site. I was invited on as a guest blogger a couple years ago by the founder. Early in 2007 I decided that I wanted to expand on my thoughts and have control over my own blog, so I started the Chamber. I can still post at FB, but the majority of the discussion took place in the message board, and that’s been down for quite some time. The site is essentially defunct at this point, but occasionally you will see old FB members stop by here (like King and Sliquid).

  26. Chen,
    General,

Sorry, I didn’t realized what question I had dodged and I also thought FearBush was yours. I must have misunderstood from Sliquid’s previous comment about missing FearBush. Much of what I quote here is from what I’ve read and your “profile”. I occasionally lurk at LGF but am not a member. Your nickname preceded you from DesertSage.

I don’t like sites where dissent is condemned – it’s the reason I’m here. What’s the purpose of a blog if it isn’t the exchange of different ideas; for bad or good? Frankly, I find conservative sites boring. Not because I disagree with them, but because I agree. If I wanted to talk to myself, I wouldn’t need the net.

I’ll hassle you but I do think you’ve got a nice site adn the right ideas about the purpose of a blog. Stuff like this is the wave of the future. LFG, KOS, sites like that are dying because of the partisanship. You’ll start getting more commentors. And when it gets too big, I’ll be gone to never bother you again.

For the most part, I like talking to liberals even if I think you’re crazy.

  27. I’m simply pointing out an issue.

But is it really? I guess that’s my point. When we step back and look at it objectively, is it really an issue. In my eyes, not at all.

LOL. As long as you’re not wearing one (the mullet).

Besides, you told me you weren’t voting for him.

No, I would never wear one…lol.
But yes, I didn’t vote for him in the primaries.
Now if it comes down to him and McCain or Huckleberry, then I may have to take a long hard look at him…Cause I know that “crazy guy” Ron Paul isn’t making it anywhere near the White House.
    hah.

You do realize that CAD “assistants” (actually no such thing, it’s more of an operator, tech or drafter), have to go to trade school right? I mean, you were trying to dog on me for that…even though you don’t really know what I do…I just hope you realize that.
If it weren’t for CAD techs or drafters, the world of architecture and engineering would be lost.

But to be honest, it doesn’t hurt to have either types of degrees, or even both. You can go to tech school, graduate, and go on to college to earn other degrees. However, the tech school will lead you down your path a little more decisively.

What gives?

What is “Time” Alex, for the win…

Really all it takes is time to change how you feel about someone. Do you honestly feel the same way now about Bush, that you did when he became President.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but Hill-dog has always rubbed me wrong. Plus she voted for the war and has tried to back out of it by lying. Bill was okay, but he still had his issues. As far as like-ability goes, when he was President, he was the man. He had a great sense about him, “good vibes maaan”. Now he is pandering for his wife and acting like a giant douche-bag.

So to answer your question, time has changed the opinions of HillDog and Billy.

  28. Sliquid,

Actually, I’ve worked with draftsman of a sort and it’s a fine job requiring a degree of technical skill. Most of the time I liked working with them better than the architects and they were certainly more helpful. I’m the first to admit much of college is highly overrated as I attested from above. Still, I want my kids to have a piece of paper.

Really all it takes is time to change how you feel about someone. Do you honestly feel the same way now about Bush, that you did when he became President.

No, after seven years of some disappointment with certain issues, I don’t feel the same about Bush. However, I still like him and considering the remaining candidates, would vote for him again.

But this Dim turnabout isn’t as simple as just finding a more qualified candidate Sliquid. This is a 180 degree turn in the opposite direction with much visceral hatred of old Hillary and Billary from used to be friends. It’s not like Obama has done something so grand to garner support. He has no record. This is as much anti-Hillary as it is love for Chen’s man.

As far as Bill: the Bill you see is the same old Bill. No different than when he was President; self-absorbed, self-important, hypocritical, a national disgrace, and a completely overrated President who simply manipulated the masses into believing his boasts. The economy is his one boasted accomplishment and I laugh when people give the President credit for the economy.

You guys are finally seeing thru the slime – as you will Obama too eventually I predict. But it looks to me like he will probably win. Of course, I can’t say much for the other side either. They don’t thrill me either. It is depressing, it is.

  29. Well the nice thing about Obama is that he has no “slime” to speak of…I don’t think we can call him that until after we know more about him.

That’s why people like him. He hasn’t been sullied by the political process yet.

  30. That’s why people like him. He hasn’t been sullied by the political process yet.

Just wait. He wasn’t nominated the “most” liberal Senator last year for nothing. That puts him to the left of Swimmer Kennedy.

  31. well, some of us don’t see that as a bad thing =0
