LGF Gets Punked
November 27, 2008As a former member who was unceremoniously shown the door, there was quite a temptation to go with the nuclear option once I discovered that I had access to LGF’s precious dictionary. But alas, I couldn’t bring myself to do something quite that assholish, so I decided to have some mercy and go for a simple prank instead.
And since the enigmatic Zombie holds the primary key to the site, I know that my handiwork will only remain posted for so long. So, I figure that I should probably document everything with a few screengrabs, just for chuckles:

So, I left the blog standing, but is anyone wondering where the dictionary itself went? To the nervous lizardoid horde, I say not to worry, ’cause I kept it fully intact….here.

See, I was a user with administrator status. And anyone who knows anything about how a wordpress.com blog works can tell you that someone doesn’t become an administrator unless they’re invited.

Fair enough though, ’cause everyone is entitled to their opinion. But speaking of opinions and “showing the world”, I couldn’t help but notice that 54% of CJ’s peers thought he’s worthy of the “Pro-Censorship Ass-Hat Award“. This is an honor that, from a certain point of view, was “proved” to be deserved based on the fact that even the “trusted” guardians of the LGF Dictionary have turned on him, looked to a seasoned master of the fine art of the flame war, and allowed this punking to transpire.

The point was to create a little blowback, and have some fun doing it. I’m a kung fu master, but sometimes I do like to play the evil clown.
Killgore was – and to many this may seem anathema – a rather fine online friend and contrary soundboard with a whole host of opinions I used to develop new opinions. And I’m sure he used me in the same manner.
I don’t miss LGF, but I do miss some of the posters there, and hate me if you must, but I do miss that one springboard.

You would think we would hear a chorus of condemnation coming from influential ulama, sheiks and Muslim scholars around the world after attacks like this. There should be press conferences touting Islam to be a religion of peace. If, for example, the Spanish wanted to spark up the Inquisition again, the Pope would be instantly on the TV. bashing such an insane idea.
Let’s listen to the Islamic world’s reaction to the Bombay attacks in which little kids were among the people executed point blank, shall we?

I’m not sure what Rabbit’s comment has to do with this thread but it’s good to see the dialog turn back to politics (hate to be a party pooper but this punked thing looks more like fodder for the Chamber Lounge than for it’s own discussion thread … perhaps if I understood the “in-joke” of it better I’d be more tolerant).
To get back to Rabbit’s comment, I agree that it would be nice to see some religious leaders publicly decry the terror in Mumbai. However, I’d also like to see a little outrage expressed here towards the animals who stampeded into a Walmart on Long Island and killed a man just to be the first to get a good Christmas sale. We need no further proof that we are descended from animals than the thugs in Mumbai and the senseless mob in Valley Stream, NY. I’ve been meaning to write a post about it but I wanted to give my mind a rest from the global insanity this four-day weekend.

While “wickle” may think he is Lawrence of Arabia, much more in the “know” due to his diverse and multicultural group of friends, Dead Rabbit “knows” Muslims too. And some of them (admittedly, not most), concede that far too much of global Islam is diseased with radicalism on a level many do not want to admit. For ever Islamic jihadist who decides to point a gun at a little girl’s head and pull the trigger, decimating her skull and sending brain matter on the other dead victims laying net to her, there are hundreds, even thousands financing this endeavor.
Don’t worry; this is no condemnation of Islam itself. Every religion has had its wacko days. My religion included. Radical Jesuits in 1500 A.D. were a sad truth. But a truth, nonetheless.

I have finally figured my old friend Wickle out. I’m betting Wickle is a student of “open” theology – buzzword for Christianity with an inkling liberal politics mixed in. They’ll chime on about the evils of abortion and feeding the poor, masquerade as supporters of the good fight, but never mention the message of which Christ who spoke more of the reality of evil than He did of Heaven. That’s why Wickle is quick to condemn Bush but will let the stuff you and I find abhorrent slide.
Doesn’t make Wickle a bad soul, in fact may be better than most, but it doesn’t make Wickle a real asset to the Kingdom of Heaven either like Wickle likes to think.
Sphinx is a reasonable Muslim, young (I believe) but pretty bright. If Islam is to survive, they’ll need people like Sphinx to not only talk the talk but to openly condemn ‘on site’ the radicals.
But I will state for the record, if somebody was killing innocents in the name of Christianity, I would feel responsible myself to end their little jihad – even if it meant me physically putting a stop to it. And I believe that is what it is going to take. Either people like The Sphinx bring it to a stop thru their actions, not just words, or millions of innocent Muslims will be killed on account of it.

While I won’t get into characterizations of Wickle, who I have greatly come to respect, I agree with much of what has been said here. It behooves Muslim clerics to publicly, clearly and unambiguously condemn the acts of the extremists. Although I must admit that I think it was mostly secularists who condemned the hate speech of Jerry Falwell rather than Christian religious leaders doing it. So, maybe it is too much to ask of religious leaders to condemn their own publicly? How many examples of it do we really see?
Regarding Walmart, I must say I’m with Tex. Every last one of the selfish bastards that stormed into that store should have been rounded up in paddy wagons, booked for accessories to murder, and thrown in a nice jail cell, hopefully long enough to spend the holidays there. The poor guy that got trampled to death won’t be having any more holidays.

Pretty much. The dictionary has now been moved to LGF itself, where I suppose it will be considered safe from further shenanigans.
The joke was that, for at least a few hours, LGF was unwittingly linking directly to the page with my cute little video (it probably would have been longer, but I got impatient waiting around for all the huffing, so I spilled the beans where I knew the lurkers would be; LGF2). And considering the penchant that CJ has for little link redirect pranks like that, the tactic was certainly fitting. Its one of those things that one can only appreciate when you know the history.
Thanks Tex. I know that words don’t do much,t except things like proving Rabbit wrong, or all the kooks at LGF that have stuffed their ears with clay and complain about being deaf.
But alas.. What am I to do from here? I don’t know any terrorists to go and put a stop to, which is hardly surprising considering how many people are terrorists, and how many people are Muslim. Color me confused! Tex, I’m not quite sure I understand how I “use Wickle as a tool.” I respect Wickle’s right to have a faith that I simply do not share. He does not proselytize which makes him A-1 in my book. While I am not an expert on his views, I believe that religion works for him and leads him mostly to very positive conclusions. He and I have an irreconcilable difference of opinion about abortion but that is not the point. He does not speak moderately and fairly because he wants to throw me a bone or appease me. He is simply, as far as I can tell, truly moderate and fair.
Also, from my reading, he was not calling you narrow-minded and hypocritical. I believe he was answering your question “Has your friendship with the lost changed any minds?” He was saying that, yes, some people who could not tolerate religious folk came around when they saw some of the good that religion can do. Tex, I sometimes think you look for insults where there are none.
Sowell, unnecessarily in my view, minimizes the crisis we are in. You can oppose government intervention without taking the tack of “compared with the Great Depression, this is a walk in the park” which is a paraphrase of Sowell’s view. I prefer analysts who give me worst case scenario instead of sugar coating stuff.

Dead Rabbit, I wasn’t making an exact equivalency between Jerry Falwell and Islamic extremists. Clearly the latter cause direct harm while the former just blows hot air (which can stir others to harm, but at least not directly). Where I was headed was simply the observation that I don’t really see respected religious leaders condemn the words or acts of the extremists among them, be they Muslim or Christian.
By the way, take away the guns and grenades from the Islamic extremists and THEY end up nothing but buffoons. So calling Falwell a buffoon does not take away the fact he was an extremist. He just wasn’t going around killing people. I assure you though, that after he blamed 9/11 on homosexuals, more than a handful of his followers felt emboldened to beat up a few “fairies” to set things right.

Sensico, LOL … I actually don’t think the phenomenon you cite happens often in the Chamber. I just think in this case, there were just so many comments that could be made about Chen’s prank, and only by those who understood it in the first place. In the absence of a newer, more politically oriented post by the General, I think we just ended up changing topics in this thread.
Once Chen writes a new post of a political nature, I’m sure we’ll all pile on that one and stay more or less on topic … which is not to say the insults and insinuations will cease. 😉
You know Rutherford, I literally postponed my new viewing of the X-Files because I knew you would be bloviating in Wickle’s defense about this time, so you can continue the current facade of friendship.
Let me say this about Wickle. I don’t question his sincerity. I believe he is probably a nice person and a Christian. I admire his general level-headedness in a conversation and he does some nice things on his blog. The world could use a few more Wickle’s and a few less Rutherford’s. I do question Wickle’s depth, do think he’s milquetoast, and feel because of weakness, he’s susceptible to worms like you making him feel warm when in reality, you laugh at him behind his back. And don’t tell me you don’t because I’ve met your type in the academic circle a zillion times before. I do cringe when I read Wickle’s attempts at the defense of the faith and his knowledge of science.
Remember Rutherford when you said I would probably like you? Well, I was right and you were wrong. You couldn’t anymore prove that comment from above, it’s another lie from your words without knowledge, and a perfect example to remind me why I detest you and your ilk. 29 октября 1969 года в 21:00 посреди двумя первыми узлами козни ARPANET, находящимися для расстоянии в 640 км — в Калифорнийском университете Лос-Анджелеса (UCLA) и в Стэнфордском исследовательском институте (SRI) — провели сеанс связи. Чарли Клайн (Charley Kline) пытался выполнить удалённое подключение из Лос-Анджелеса к компьютеру в Стэнфорде. Успешную передачу каждого введённого символа его коллега Билл Дювалль (Banknote Duvall) из Стэнфорда подтверждал сообразно телефону.
В 1957 году, после запуска Советским Союзом первого искусственного спутника Земли, Министерство обороны США посчитало[источник не указан 478 дней], сколько для трагедия войны Америке нужна надёжная система передачи информации. Агентство по перспективным оборонным научно-исследовательским разработкам США (DARPA) предложило разработать для этого компьютерную сеть. Разработка такой путы была поручена Калифорнийскому университету в Лос-Анджелесе, Стэнфордскому исследовательскому центру, Университету Юты и Университету штата Калифорния в Санта-Барбаре. Компьютерная сеть была названа ARPANET (англ. Advanced Digging Projects Intervention Network), и в 1969 году в рамках проекта козни объединила четыре указанных научных учреждения.
