  • I could have sworn that yesterday Paul was ahead.  Anyway, it’s been like this for weeks.  I don’t think I’ve seen Ron Paul lower than #4 on this list.  With all the buzz he’s been getting on the internet, however, it doesn’t seem to effect actual poll numbers.  From a recent USAT/Gallup poll:

Giuliani has the support of 30% of “Republicans and Republican leaners,” vs. 28% a month ago; Thompson comes in with 20%, vs. 19% in June; McCain has 16%, vs. 18% a month earlier.

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney remains in fourth, at 9% vs. 7% in June.

The current numbers for the rest of the Republicans included in the survey: Former House speaker Newt Gingrich, 6%; former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, 2%; Rep. Duncan Hunter, 2%; Rep. Tom Tancredo, 2%; Sen. Sam Brownback, 1%; Sen. Chuck Hagel, 1%; former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson, 1%. Neither former Virginia governor Jim Gilmore nor Rep. Ron Paul registered any support.

No support?  Yesterday, I saw that Paul was ahead of all the the other GOP candidates in campaign contributions from members of the armed services.

What the heck is going on?

    1. I’m a Libertarian so I believe in a lot of the same things as Ron Paul.

      Smaller, very limited government.
Substantially lower taxes and Laissez-faire economics.
      Abolishing the welfare state.

But this particular point in history is not a good time to be implementing Libertarian principles and policies. The 90’s would have been a good time…right after the Cold War ended and before the War On Terror heated up. But not now. Now is a good time for a Rudy Giuliani of a Fred Thompson to take the reins of power and keep it out of the hands of the Socialist Democrats.

    2. This may be explained by this not entirely tongue in cheek insight of mine I originally thought up to explain dean’s fall from electoral grace.

      ClapSo’s internet/political inverse square law:

The number of votes you will receive in an election is inversely proportional to the amount of buzz you receive on the internet.

This may be explained by the fact that the younger you are the more time you spend on the net and the less likely you are to vote and vis a versa (older = less net, more likely to vote).

The polls can be explained by them being weighted toward “likely voters” who are usually older.

This also explains why our young people in uniform are giving more contributions to paul. He has the highest profile on the net and they are young…

The scientifically impossible I do right away
The spiritually miraculous takes a bit longer

    3. Here’s what I’m saying:

I don’t trust the pollsters so much anymore. How do we know they are honest. I see way to much corruption, and this would sure be one area where corruption would pay. So, I am leaving the polls behind finally. I feel so much lighter.

    4. I like that theory ClapSo. I would add that if the poll is done by land line phone you aren’t going to reach the younger crowd as much because more and more are using their cell phone as their only phone.

BTW- Just having ‘Ron Paul’ in a post seems to give a blogger a bump in traffic, too.

    5. You’re assuming that there is a large number of supporters making small donations. It’s most likely 6-7 supporters making large donations.

    6. Chen,
Put up a poll and your traffic will go through the roof.

    7. Hmmm.. interesting info about Paul.

    8. Chen,
Could you please delete my two comments?

    9. Killgore-

I’m not sure that the concepts ‘large donations’ and
‘member of armed services’ really go together. I could be wrong I guess.

    10. False alarm on deleting my comments. My nic a temporarily blue but it’s been updated.

    11. This is what a Ron Paul supporter looks like:

    12. LOL…Well, we already characterised the Romney supporters, right?

    13. Actually, I think this is a better characterization of a Romney supporter:

    14. Wait a second, aren’t YOU a Romney supporter?

    15. Shh… just accept it, I can use that later.

    16. Yeah, I’m a Romney supporter. Fortunately, I have a sense of humor. Check out this one of the typical Fred supporter:

    17. Oh, yeah, I see him. Guy in the red hat a few rows down? Wonder if he got into a fight with the Ron Paul idiot with the #3 back hair in from.

    18. Don’t forget to donate before the 3rd quarter (sep 30)!!!

    19. killgoretrout;
Do you have a citation for the statement that there are only 6-7 people donating to the Ron Paul campaign?

    20. I join. It was and with me. Let’s discuss this question.

By the way, what do you think about this icons site?

    21. You are not right. I suggest it to discuss.

      P.S. Please review icons
